Solar Installers Hub

Whether you’re new to working with Jemena or looking for advice on how to connect solar to our network, we’re here to help you along the way.
This support hub is designed specifically for i nstallers, and brings together the key information you need to connect solar to Jemena’s Electricity Network smoothly and confidently.  We have compiled common questions, useful links, a step-by-step connections checklist, and training guides for managing solar applications through MyPortal.

Connecting to Jemena's Electricity Network

To help you connect your customers' solar systems to the Jemena Electricity Network, we've outlined the key steps and requirements below. Whether you're lodging a new connection application, checking technical requirements or preparing for meter installation, you'll find the information and resources you need to help keep projects moving smoothly.

Jemena Approved List of Inverters

In 2024, the Victorian Government mandated changes that impact customer solar installations up to and including 200kVA in size (small – medium installations).  Under the changes, all Electricity Distribution Networks like Jemena must ensure that all new, replacement and upgraded solar systems are Emergency Backstop enabled.

Electricity distribution networks like Jemena must ensure that all new, replacement and upgraded solar systems are Emergency Backstop enabled, as mandated by the Victorian Government.

Important information about connecting to the Jemena network

To connect to the network, inverters must be on the Clean Energy Council list of compliant inverters, as well as on Jemena's approved list of inverters.  Inverters that are not on Jemena's approved list cannot connect to or be commissioned to the Jemena Electricity Network.

Jemena's approved list of inverters

Be sure to consider the following when connecting an inverter to Jemena's network:

  • The inverter must be connected to the internet at all times.
  • The approved inverter must be on the list of inverters approved for Jemena connection. Please note that we are regularly adding to this list as we continue to test and approve inverter manufacturers.
  • Any applications with total solar inverter capacity of 10kVA single phase and 30kVA three phase or below that’s not on Jemena’s approved inverter list will be rejected. Installers must ensure they check Jemena’s approved inverter list before submitting a Commission My Inverter application to avoid any delays or rejected applications.
  • If the inverter cannot be accessed via the internet, we’re unable to access the solar system remotely, and the system’s solar export limit will be reduced from 5kVA per phase to 0.5kVA (Total Export Limit).

Emergency Backstop information for Installers

The Victorian Government has introduced changes that require Distribution Businesses, such as Jemena, to remotely turn down (reduce) or switch off solar generation during an emergency, such as when we have a supply and demand imbalance within the electricity network. This temporary action will be taken at the direction of AEMO to protect the stability of the network. The final stage of changes, which come into effect from 1 October 2024, will impact households and small businesses installing a new, replacement or upgraded system.

Quick resource links for Installers

A range of key resources are available to help solar installers meet Victoria’s technical and compliance requirements — including Solar Victoria’s Emergency Backstop guidance, Jemena’s approved inverter criteria and installer FAQs, and Solar Accreditation Australia's accreditation standards. Together, they support safe, compliant, and grid‑ready solar installations.

Connections charges for Solar and Other Technologies

Jemena will apply a connection charge to cover the costs and time for our team to assess your application.

From time to time, we may be required to augment our network to facilitate your Embedded Generation (EG) system. Our team will contact you if we do need to make any augmentation and advise of any associated costs.
