To help you connect your customers' solar systems to the Jemena Electricity Network, we've outlined the key steps and requirements below. Whether you're lodging a new connection application, checking technical requirements or preparing for meter installation, you'll find the information and resources you need to help keep projects moving smoothly.
In 2024, the Victorian Government mandated changes that impact customer solar installations up to and including 200kVA in size (small – medium installations). Under the changes, all Electricity Distribution Networks like Jemena must ensure that all new, replacement and upgraded solar systems are Emergency Backstop enabled.
Electricity distribution networks like Jemena must ensure that all new, replacement and upgraded solar systems are Emergency Backstop enabled, as mandated by the Victorian Government.
To connect to the network, inverters must be on the Clean Energy Council list of compliant inverters, as well as on Jemena's approved list of inverters. Inverters that are not on Jemena's approved list cannot connect to or be commissioned to the Jemena Electricity Network.
Be sure to consider the following when connecting an inverter to Jemena's network:
A range of key resources are available to help solar installers meet Victoria’s technical and compliance requirements — including Solar Victoria’s Emergency Backstop guidance, Jemena’s approved inverter criteria and installer FAQs, and Solar Accreditation Australia's accreditation standards. Together, they support safe, compliant, and grid‑ready solar installations.
Jemena will apply a connection charge to cover the costs and time for our team to assess your application.
From time to time, we may be required to augment our network to facilitate your Embedded Generation (EG) system. Our team will contact you if we do need to make any augmentation and advise of any associated costs.
