Basic Connections
This means:
• Connection by overhead cable or existing pit at property border
• No need to update or extend our network
• No metering or technical issues
• Maximum capacity under 76Amps per phase
• Permanent connection (or temporary up to 12 months).

Types of Basic Connections
Basic Connections
A new residential or small business connection will be usually offered as a basic connection service under our model standing offers. A basic connection:
- Has a maximum capacity of less than 76Amps per phase
- Is a connection either via an overhead single span cable less than 45 meters (and less than 20 meters over your property), or an existing* underground pit at the border of your property
- Is for a permanent connection (or temporary as long as it is for less than 12 months)
- Doesn’t require any updating or extension of our network.
- Has no metering or technical issues
Temporary Connections
A Temporary Connection is a connection required by builders when they require electricity to complete construction at a property.
Direct Connections
You can apply for a new electricity connection through your electricity retailer or directly with Jemena.
Submitting your application through a retailer is the most common option, as your retailer can coordinate both the connection and metering requirements. Alternatively, you can apply directly with Jemena for the network connection works.
Important: If you choose to apply directly with Jemena, the electricity meter will be installed and programmed off once the connection is completed. Before the site can be energised and electricity supplied, you will need to establish an account with a retailer of your choice. Your retailer will then arrange for the meter to be activated and energised.
Whether you apply through a retailer or directly with Jemena, we'll work to ensure your connection is completed safely and in accordance with our network requirements.

CT Connections
If your property requires a higher level of electricity, typically more than 76 amps per phase, a Current Transformer (CT) connection is needed.
