Current Transformer Connections

If your property requires a higher level of electricity, typically more than 76 amps per phase, a Current Transformer (CT) connection is needed.

Why CT Metering?

Standard meters aren’t designed to handle high electrical loads. CT meters work by using transformers to reduce the current to a manageable level, allowing the meter to record usage safely and accurately. This is essential for larger homes, commercial buildings, and industrial sites.

What to Expect Based on Your Load

  • 76 to 152 amps: Jemena will install a CT meter directly on your site.
  • 153 amps and above: You’ll need an external CT meter, which is arranged separately, usually by your retailer or electrical contractor.

How It Works:

  • CTs are installed around the incoming power cables.
  • They measure the current flowing through the cables and send that data to the meter.
  • The meter then calculates your electricity usage based on the CT readings.

This setup ensures your connection is safe, compliant, and tailored to your energy needs.

Important to Note

CT Connection requests may require a Negotiated Connection to make the electricity supply available at the required capacity.
