We're Ready for a Safe Summer

Keeping You Summer Safe

At Jemena, we’re committed to maintaining a safe and reliable electricity network throughout the summer months. Here are some tips, tools and support to help you stay safe, cool and connected this summer.

When severe storms hit, powerlines and equipment can be damaged, leading to outages. Our teams spring into action immediately, assessing hazards, restoring electricity safely, and keeping the community informed every step of the way.

Your Electricity, Our Care

When you switch on a light or turn on your TV, we know you’re not wondering who your electricity distributor is. You just want things to work, reliably and safely, every time.

The electricity powering your place comes to you through our distribution network. As your electricity distributor, we get to work every day to bring energy to your life.

Powering Your Community

We’re one of five electricity distributors across Victoria and we service your area. We supply electricity to around 387,000 homes and businesses in north-west Melbourne and are responsible for building and maintaining the electricity distribution network and managing 78,500 streetlights.

We’re passionate about powering our communities and are investing in innovative technologies to ensure safe, reliable energy for thousands of homes and businesses today and into the future.

Our Services - Part of Your World

We’re out and about in your community every day. These are some of the things we’re doing:

Connecting power to new homes and businesses

Responding to faults and emergencies

Working on the poles and wires that carry electricity to you

Helping people connect solar to the network

Looking after and repairing streetlights

Reading and maintaining electricity meters

Planned Outages and Power Faults

Our network can be affected by uncontrollable events, such as vehicles hitting power poles, wildlife near power lines, severe weather, or damage to underground cables. Therefore, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted power supply.

If there’s a power outage or an unplanned interruption, we will work quickly to restore electricity and keep you informed via SMS, email, and our website. Please ensure your retailer has your correct contact information.

Working around live power lines can be dangerous. For your safety, we may need to interrupt power supply to keep everyone safe while we complete work. We’ll always give you at least four business days’ notice of a planned interruption.

Notice a power fault in your area? You can report it by calling us on 131 626.

On Life Support Equipment?

Register your contact details with us or your energy retailer* so we can help to keep you safe during an outage. We can provide you with advice and assistance to plan for unexpected power outages and offer batteries during scheduled planned outages.

In the case of a planned power outage for repair or maintenance work, we’ll always provide you with written notice at least four business days before our work gets underway.

*You will need to provide medical confirmation to support this requirement.

We put our people and the communities we serve at the heart of everything we do.

Community Batteries

Jemena is making locally generated renewable energy available to more homes and businesses by installing new community batteries within our electricity network.

Community batteries benefit electricity customers by making renewable energy available to everyone connected to the local network, not just those with rooftop solar. They can help stabilise the electricity grid by soaking up excess solar during the day and using it to reduce demand on the grid during peak times at night.

We Care

We’re serious about our contribution to a decarbonised future.
And caring for the environment goes hand in hand with caring for our people and communities.

Our 10-Year Strategy

Over the next 10 years, there'll be major changes happening across the energy industry. Learn about our 10-year strategy to prepare your electricity network for these changes, and support Victoria’s move toward net-zero.

Helping Communities Thrive

This year, we were delighted to award grants of $10,000 to seven organisations doing great work to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People through our 2025 First Nations Community Grants Program.
