The proposed Hunter Lateral Project involves the construction of a 6km buried pipeline which will connect Santos' proposed Hunter Gas Pipeline at Millers Forest to the Jemena Gas Networks (JGN) Northern Trunkline at Hexham. Santos' Hunter Gas Pipeline plans to deliver gas from the Santos Narrabri Gas project to the east coast domestic market and will be approved via a separate development application.
Jemena has worked closely with affected landholders and stakeholders to ensure they are informed as the proposed Hunter Lateral Project develops.
Jemena has submitted a Modification Report for the Hunter Lateral Project to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) to modify Jemena’s existing approval for the Killingworth to Kooragang Island Pipeline. The Modification Report was submitted on 27 July 2026 and is on public exhibition from Tuesday 04 August 2026 until Tuesday 18 August 2026. The Modification report for the Hunter Lateral can be viewed via the DPHI Planning Portal.
Jemena also plans to lodge an application to vary the licence area for the Killingworth to Kooragang Island Pipeline (Pipeline Licence No. 8) for the Hunter Lateral Project under Section 18 of the Pipelines Act 1967 to NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) in Q4 2026.
