Leakage Survey Program

How our Leakage Survey Program is Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Safety and sustainability are at the heart of what we do. That’s why we’ve introduced a Leakage Survey Program to our operations. We currently have three specialised vehicles fitted with state-of-the-art, vehicle-mounted technology developed by Picarro. This allows us to identify and repair fugitive gas emissions with greater speed and accuracy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and keeping our network safe.

What is the Leakage Survey Program?

The program uses highly sensitive sensors to detect even the smallest methane leaks as our vehicles drive through local streets. The technology is up to 1,000 times more sensitive than traditional leak detection methods, allowing us to pinpoint and address leaks before they become an issue.

How it Works

  • Specialised equipment, mounted in survey vehicles, continuously measures methane levels in the air.
  • GPS mapping pinpoints potential leak locations with high accuracy.
  • Our field crews are then dispatched to investigate and repair any confirmed leaks.

This process allows us to:
  • Find leaks earlier
  • Target repairs where they’re needed most
  • Reduce emissions that contribute to climate change

More about the Program

In one of our Sustainability Selfie videos, we handed the camera to one of our talented Engineering Graduates to share insights into the Leakage Survey Program and give a behind-the-scenes look at life in our graduate program.
