Your Gas Network

What you need to know about gas in your home

Gas continues to be used in homes across NSW, and existing customers remain supported. The gas network is maintained and continues to play a role alongside other energy sources.

If your home already has a gas connection, you can keep using your appliances as you do today. There’s no requirement to switch away from gas. Gas remains a reliable and practical energy choice for cooking, heating and hot water - supported today and evolving for the future.

Already connected

If your home already has gas, you can continue using it as you do today.

Supported today

Existing gas customers remain supported, with the network continuing to operate and be maintained.

No requirement to switch

There is no requirement for existing customers to switch away from gas.

Thinking about replacing appliances?

If your home already uses gas, replacing like-for-like is often the simplest option:
• Your home already has a gas connection
• Replacement is usually straightforward
• No major changes to your home setup
• Reliable everyday use

In many cases, switching energy systems can involve additional upgrades or changes to your home.

The future of gas: Renewable Gas

Renewable Gas is being developed as part of Australia’s future energy mix. One example is biomethane made from organic materials like agricultural waste and food scraps.

It’s designed to work through the same gas network and appliances already used in many homes today. That means your existing appliances may be able to use renewable gas in the future.

Renewable Gas is one of the ways the gas network is evolving over time while continuing to support homes already connected.

Keep your home safe with gas

Gas appliances are safe when they are properly installed and regularly serviced. Keeping your appliances maintained helps ensure safe and efficient performance in your home.
