
As at 31 March 2009, Jemena owns a portfolio of network businesses in Australia's energy distribution sector as summarised below.
JGN is a gas distribution network in New South Wales (NSW) established in 1837. JGN typically delivers 95 to 100 petajoules (PJ) per annum of natural gas to more than 1 million homes and businesses across NSW.
JEN owns one of the five licensed electricity distribution networks in Victoria which supplies electricity to approximately 300,000 homes and businesses via approximately 11,000 kilometres of distribution system. The network services 950 square kilometres of northwest greater Melbourne.
The ActewAGL Distribution Partnership owns, plans, develops, constructs, operates and maintains the electricity network in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and the gas networks in the ACT, Queanbeyan and Nowra and manages all water and wastewater operations in the ACT. Jemena has a 50% interest in ActewAGL, the remaining 50% of the partnership is owned by ACTEW Distribution Limited, a subsidiary of ACTEW Corporation Limited. ACTEW Corporation Limited is an ACT government owned company with assets and investments in water, wastewater, electricity, gas and telecommunications.
Jemena holds a 34% shareholding in UED. UED distributes electricity throughout south east Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula. The network covers approximately 1,472 square kilometres and services approximately 620,000 customers as at December 2007. The remaining 66% of UED is held by the DUET Group which is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX code: DUE).
The EGP transports gas 797 kilometres from the Gippsland Basin to Sydney and regional centres and has a current capacity of approximately 91 PJ of gas per annum.
The QGP transports gas 627 kilometres from the Surat and Cooper Basins and the Rolleston and Westgrove gas fields to Gladstone and Rockhampton with a current capacity of approximately 30 PJ of gas per annum.
The VicHub Interconnect Facility is a pipeline interconnect situated at Longford, Victoria. The facility was commissioned in January 2003 and enables gas to flow between the EGP, Tasmanian Gas Pipeline (TGP) and Australian Pipeline Group’s (APA) Victorian gas transmission system. The facility has a nominal daily capacity of 150 terajoules (TJ) per day.
Colongra is a 9 kilometre, high pressure gas transmission and storage pipeline delivering gas to the NSW government’s Delta Energy (Delta) new peaking power station at Munmorah, NSW. Delta supplies the gas to Colongra via the JGN network. Jemena’s asset management business managed the construction of Colongra and provides operations and maintenance services under contract.
AquaNet, Australia’s first private recycled water network built to supply industrial and commercial customers under a project agreement with Sydney Water Corporation, will include a 20 kilometre network to provide for both the manufacture and retail of recycled water. Jemena’s asset management business will manage the construction of Aquanet, and will also manage and maintain it once the network is in operation.
Jemena currently holds a 6.8% stake in TransACT, a communications company operating a broadband and telecommunications network across Canberra and surrounding areas.
